KUOW 94.9 Fm Public Radio Dominates Society Of Professional Journalist Regional Awards

(May 24, 2005) Seattle, WA: KUOW 94.9, NPR News & Information, was honored with 13 awards from the 2005 Society for Professional Journalists. In addition, KUOW received the Sweepstakes Award for most awards in the Pacific Northwest region. The recipients were honored on Saturday, May 21st at the SPJ annual awards banquet.

SPJ's Northwest Excellence in Journalism competition recognizes the work of journalists at all media in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Western Montana and Alaska during the 2004 calendar year. The Society's membership roster includes reporters, editors, publishers, media owners, freelancers, educators, and students.

Of the 13 awards KUOW received, there were four 1st Place, two 2nd Place, two 3rd Place, and five were Honorable Mention. The winners are Kate Cohen, Cathy Duchamp, Phyllis Fletcher, Patricia Murphy, Guy Nelson, and Marcie Sillman.

KUOW and KXOT are streamed live worldwide via the Internet at kuow.org. On May 1st 2004, KUOW became the first public radio station in our region to provide our listeners with KUOW in HDTM Radio clarity. The station is operated by KUOW Puget Sound Public Radio (PSPR) under an agreement with the station licensee, the University of Washington. PSPR is a private non-profit corporation established in 1999 and is governed by a community board.
