KUOW 94.9FM – NPR News and Information – Seattle Expands Current HD Radio Service to Three Channels

(January 26, 2006) Seattle, WA: KUOW 94.9, the region’s NPR News and Information station, is the first public station in the Puget Sound region to expand public service by broadcasting two HD Radio services (KUOW 94.9 and KUOW2) since August of 2004, now offers KUOW3 with twenty-four hours of the BBC World Service. In anticipation of the growing number of affordable HD radio receivers about to enter the market, the addition of KUOW3 with BBC World Service complements KUOW’s current local and national services with an international news perspective from one of the most trusted news sources in the world. Currently KUOW’s primary HD Radio channel broadcasts a simulcast of KUOW 94.9FM daily programming with KUOW2 offering nationally distributed programs such as: Fresh Air, Talk of the Nation, The Bob Edwards Show and Left Right and Center - just to name a few. On KUOW2 listeners also find their favorite KUOW –produced programs such as Weekday, The Conversation, The Beat and The Works rebroadcast during times more convenient to their schedules.

Unlike satellite service, with monthly or annual fees and limited or no local programming, KUOW programming in HD Radio is free to all listeners and produces near CD quality sound. It is expected that HD Radio receivers, for the car and for the home, will be widely available in the Puget Sound region in spring of 2006.

KUOW’s dedication to serve an informed public, one challenged and invigorated by an understanding and appreciation of events, ideas and cultures, is greatly expanded with its three HD Radio services - KUOW 94.9, KUOW2 and now KUOW3.

KUOW is the region’s public radio station for news, information and cultural programming. It serves the Puget Sound region, Western Washington and Southern British Columbia at 94.9FM, Bellingham, WA at 90.3FM and Olympia, WA at 1340AM. KUOW 94.9 and KUOW2 are streamed live via the Internet at kuow.org and KUOW, KUOW2 and KUOW3 are broadcast in crystal clear HD Radio technology.
