About Derek Wang:

Derek Wang is an award–winning journalist with more than a decade's worth of experience in public radio. He is currently KUOW's host for NPR's "Morning Edition," meaning he interviews newsmakers and coordinates the local news segments.

Derek has won a shelf full of journalism awards from groups such as the Radio and Television News Directors Association, the Public Radio News Directors Inc., and the Society of Professional Journalists.

Prior to arriving at KUOW, Derek was a desk assistant for CBS News, and a producer for WNYC's childrens' show "New York Kids."

Derek has a B.F.A in Film from New York University and a M.S. in Journalism from Columbia University (where he also was the voice for the admissions' office phone system). Derek is a native of New Jersey, and a huge fan of the New Jersey Devils. That is because he incredulously believes the team's several Stanley Cup titles give displaced New Jerseyans something not to feel ashamed about.
