Concept and Bios
The concept: Three people watch a live gubernatorial debate on TV and comment on it live–to–tape. The visual: The silhouettes of the commentators are projected onto the TV screen, so you watch them watch the debates.
Seattletimes.com and kuow.org bring you a production in which three Seattle Times Political Caucus bloggers provide live commentary during the gubernatorial debate. The commentators were taped in silhouette while watching and commenting. As a viewer you will see highlights of the debate and hear Seattle Times Caucus members responding.
Our three politically theatrical commentators:
TARSI HALL, DEMOCRAT:
My fascination with politics began when I was eight years old, by polling my classmates on who was voting for what candidate in that particular presidential election. From there, my fascination lead to internships on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C., then a job at one of the top 10 lobbying firms in Washington D.C. While lobbying I focused on education, healthcare and environmental policy, and wrote a master's thesis on the current state of higher education and its affect on society. After receiving my Master's in Political Management from The George Washington University and getting my fix of the beltway, I moved back home to Seattle where I began working in public relations at Edelman in Seattle. Currently, I indulge my political appetite by reading incessantly, bantering with friends and keeping up on the latest SNL parody.
ALEX BEREZOW, CONSERVATIVE:
I'm a Ph.D. student at the University of Washington studying microbiology. I'm a moderate conservative. I grew up in Illinois, but moved to Seattle in 2004.
MARTIN KARL BISCH, NO POLITICAL AFFILIATION:
I was born in an army hospital at Fort Lawton which is now a part of Discovery Park. I grew up in Seattle and graduated from Sealth H.S. in 1973. I went to Central Washington when it was a college. I have a degree in Criminal Justice. I joined the Seattle Police Department in 1978 after being a "police brat." My mom was one of the first "policewomen" and was a detective until her death in 1980. I have had numerous assignments with SPD including being a hostage negotiator for the past 18 years. My hobbies include dancing, especially to Zydeco music. I sometimes sit in with the visiting Zydeco bands playing Rub Board and sing back up. I also DJ on KBCS 91.3 every Tuesday night.
