How to Be a Girl Listening Party

On a recent Sunday, KUOW and University of Washington's Department of Gender, Women and Sexuality Studies partnered to host the How to Be a Girl Listening Party.

We gathered inThe Cloud Roomto listen to a few episodes of How to Be a Girl and talk about the themes and questions raised in the podcast. Attendees broke into small groups to discuss the central topics of each episode, then came together to share their insights with the group. At the end of the event, we asked attendees to write a message to podcast creator Marlo Mack and her daughter.

How to Be a Girl is a podcast produced by Marlo Mack and centers around her life with her transgender daughter. It stars the two of them — a single mom and her nine-year-old transgender daughter — as they attempt together to sort out just what it means to be a girl.
