Reza Aslan on How to Get Out of the Cosmic War in the Middle East

02/22/2007 at 8:00 p.m.

Reza Aslan says Islamic jihadists have framed the War on Terror as a cosmic struggle between good and evil, a new Crusade. He thinks it's up to the United States to reframe the conflicts in the Middle East in social, political and economic terms. Otherwise, he believes the war will last for eternity.

Reza Aslan is a commentator for Marketplace and CBS News. He has written for many publications including The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times and Slate. He is the author of No god but God: The Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam. He emigrated to the United States from Iran in 1979, when he was seven years old.

Reza Aslan spoke on February 10, 2007 at Herzl Ner Tamid, a synagogue on Mercer Island.
