Is Denser Better?

04/16/2007 at 12:00 p.m.

Seattle is becoming a denser city. Single family homes and apartments are coming down while townhouses and condos are going up. Is it good for the city? Advocates of more density say it will prevent long commutes. They say with more people per square mile, mass transit becomes more feasible. But skeptics argue density is driving up the cost of housing. The modest bungalow was razed for four expensive town houses. How has Seattle's increasing density affected your neighborhood? How's it affecting your choices of where to live? Do you applaud more density? Jeer it? Or are you still scratching your head over what it means for you and the city?
