Ask the Earth Day Ethicists

Steve Scher
04/20/2007 at 9:00 a.m.

Earth Day is Sunday. Why should current generations protect the environment for future generations? Is it more ethical to buy an expensive hybrid car, or to buy a cheaper car with somewhat worse mileage and purchase carbon offsets with the savings? Can ethicists help us resolve cases where solving global warming and alleviating global poverty seem to conflict? Call in with your questions for our earth day ethicists.

Guests:
Stephen M. Gardiner is Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Washington and an expert in environmental ethics.
Michael Blake is Associate Professor of Philosophy and Public Affairs at the University of Washington, and a regular 'ethicist' on Weekday.
