Tap Water or Bottled Water?

Steve Scher
11/28/2007 at 9:00 a.m.

Connoisseurs are calling bottled water the next wine, with the price in high–end restaurants running up to $100 a liter for the finest H20. But other restaurants are banning bottled water, citing environmental concerns from bottle pollution to global warming. Today we take a close look at drinking water – from the bottle and from the tap. What's the best choice for your health and for the environment? How does bottled water compare to tap? How is tap water quality measured and regulated? Call in: no questions will be watered down!

Guests:
Wylie Harper is the water–quality laboratory manager for Seattle Public Utilities.
Susan Neely is the American Beverage Association's President and CEO. She joins us from Washington, DC.
Gigi Kellett is the Associate Campaigns Director for Corporate Accountability International. In July of this year, CAI helped persuade Pepsi to label Aquafina from a "public water source." She joins us from Boston.
Arthur von Wiesenberger is a food and wine writer; and a world expert on bottled water. He's been called the Robert Parker of water. He joins us today from his home in Santa Barbara.
