A Conversation with Tom Brokaw

12/10/2007 at 9:00 a.m.

NBC News Special Correspondent Tom Brokaw joins us. His career has taken him all over the world: from Baghdad to Normandy. He was the first person to interview Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev, the only anchor at the falling Berlin Wall and the first American anchor to interview the Dalai Lama. He recently won the Edward R. Murrow Lifetime Achievement Award, and he was the first journalist to receive the George Catlett Marshall Medal, the highest award given by the Association of the U.S. Army. His recent book Boom! reflects on the voices of the sixties, asking readers to take the time to look back before the 2008 election. Tom Brokaw joins us in our studios today on Weekday.

Guests:
Tom Brokaw anchored Today on NBC from 1976 to 1981. Later, he was the sole anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw. His last broadcast was on December 1st, 2004, but has been busy. He is author of four bestsellers: The Greatest Generation, The Greatest Generation Speaks, An Album of Memories, and A Long Way from Home. His latest book is Boom! Voices of the Sixties.
