What's The Best Way To Choose A Presidential Candidate — a primary or a caucus?

Ross Reynolds
01/29/2008 at 1:00 p.m.

A week from Saturday Washington State holds Republican and Democratic Presidential caucuses. How can you participate? Can you attend if you're an independent? I'm Ross Reynolds. Today on The Conversation we'll have the chairmen of the state Republican and Democratic Parties with us to explain. The Democrats are choosing all their delegates through caucuses. The Republicans are choosing half their delegates at the February 9th caucuses and half in Washington's Presidential Primary 10 days later. Why has each party chosen a different method to chose a presidential candidate? Which do you prefer — caucuses or primaries? Will Washington State be a player in the choice of Republican and Democratic presidential candidates?

Guests:
Dwight Pelz is the chair for the Washington State Democratic Party.
Luke Esser is the chair for the Washington State Republican Party.
