1. Poems For the Absent BelovedThis week, many people will exchange gifts and declarations of devotion in honor of Valentine's Day. If you're separated from your beloved, though, you have to find some way to bridge the distance. Today, Peter Pereira and Eloise Klein Healy read poems that provide evidence of the imagination's capacity to do just that, despite geography and even mortality. Hosted by Megan Sukys and Elizabeth Austen.
2. The Veil Between Heaven and Earth
In the Koran, there's a passage that speaks of a "veil between heaven and earth." It means that even in the everyday, there's a possibility of spiritual transcendence. G. Willow Wilson has experienced this veil between heaven and earth throughout her life; it's part of the reason she converted to Islam. It's also part of the reason she moved to Cairo after college. As a new transplant to Seattle, Willow tells Jeannie Yandel that the spiritual veil is evident here, too.
3. Quite Exciting Saturday
There was record turnout on Saturday for the Washington State caucuses. KUOW reporters Deborah Wang and Phyllis Fletcher were there too, at both Democratic and Republican events. Guy Nelson hears about their experiences, and those of listeners who took part in Washington State's Quite Exciting Saturday.
