Poet Brian Turner was one of 28,000 soldiers based at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, before he was sent to serve in the Iraq war. KUOW producers Elizabeth Austen and Megan Sukys explore one of Brian's poems, which transforms an everyday chore into a frightening, visionary experience.
2. Great Expectations
The Seattle Tower was built in 1929 at the height of the art deco movement, and its design tells the story of a city aspiring to greatness. Dave Beck and Kelly Brost of the Seattle Architecture Foundation reveal the daring stylistic elements which make the building at 1218 Third Avenue such a notable landmark.
3. Ask A Stupid Question
You have to be willing to risk embarrassment if you want to learn. This is something Sara Gazarek has learned more than once. She's a jazz singer who started her career here in Seattle at Roosevelt High. Over the years, she tells Jeannie Yandel, she's had to ask a lot of stupid questions.
4. Someday Everything Will Taste This Way
Justin Esch dreamed of giving all his food a little of the flavor he loved the most. He shared his dream with co–worker Dave Lefkow, and less than a year later, the two of them have made Bacon Salt a reality. Jeannie Yandel joins Justin and Dave at the Bacon Salt offices in Seattle's South Park neighborhood.
