Is that a shark in the water? No, it's a robot! The University of Washington unveils its latest underwater inventions, RoboFish and Seagliders, and makes strides in robotic technology. Find out the latest in robotics — both on land and under the sea — from the inventors themselves. Kristi Morgansen is an assistant professor in the Aeronautics and Astronautics department and the Clare Boothe Luce Professor of Engineering at the University of Washington. She has built three RoboFish, or salmon–like robots that swim underwater and explore remote ocean environments.
Fritz Stahr heads the Seaglider Fabrication Center at the University of Washington, which builds Seagliders for universities and researchers.
Chytra Pawashe is a mechanical engineering graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University. He's part of the school's microfield robotics team, which has made tiny nanorobots that play soccer on a microscopic field.
Cliff Mass is a UW Atmospheric Scientist.
