Hard Times for Colleges in Washington?

The Gates Foundation just pledged $69 million to two–year colleges. With colleges facing budget crunches, will this new infusion help? How have Washington's colleges been affected in enrollment, funding, endowments and budget? We talk to presidents of public, private and community colleges about how things have changed... and what they're doing in response. It's Weekday.

Mark Emmert is president of the University of Washington, which is also his alma mater. He was previously chancellor at Louisiana State University and the University of Connecticut.

Jill Wakefield is the president of South Seattle Community College. She will become the chancellor of the SCC district this January.

Philip Eaton is the president of Seattle Pacific University. He is an alum of Whitworth College, and completed his graduate work at Arizona State University and the University of California, San Diego.

Lee Lambert is the president of Shoreline Community College. He previously worked in legal affairs at Centralia College and Evergreen State College. He is a graduate of Evergreen and Seattle University School of Law.

Charlie Earl is the executive director of the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges. He formerly was president of Everett Community College.
