There was much chatter in the blogosphere calling for President–elect Obama to appoint Michael Pollan as the new Secretary of Agriculture. He wasn't, but he joins us today to discuss the next administration's food policy. Last October, Pollan wrote a letter to the next President, asking him to prioritize food policy – rather than just farm policy. What are his specific recommendations for 2009? Michael Pollan is a contributor to The New York Times and the Knight Professor in Science and Environmental Journalism at UC Berkeley. He formerly served as executive editor of Harper's magazine. He has received the California Book Award, the Northern California Book Award, and the James Beard Award for best food writing. He was a finalist for the 2006 National Book Critics Circle Award for "The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals." His most recent book is "In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto."
