Bernd Heinrich is professor emeritus of biology at the University of Vermont. He is a former Guggenheim fellow, Harvard fellow and von Humboldt fellow. He has written a number of books on animal behavior and personal reflections on nature. His books have covered everything from energy economics in bees to the social organization of ravens to what it's like to be an ultramarathon–loving scientist. His latest book is "Summer World: A Season of Bounty."
Vaughn Palmer is a political correspondent for the Vancouver Sun.
