The tragedy of "Romeo and Juliet" resonates with passion, violence and grief. But ballet performances often rely on simple pantomime from dancers to tell the story. That can rob the story of its depth. Alice Kaderlan rediscovered the emotional impact of "Romeo and Juliet" through a production at Pacific Northwest Ballet (PNB) in Seattle. Choreographer Jean Christophe Maillot's interpretation of Shakespeare's story left a profound impression on Alice. She spoke with KUOW's Dave Beck about how Maillot's choreography at PNB brings new life to an old story.
