Former CIA Analyst Ray McGovern on Torture

"Something evil has seeped into the soul of our nation," writes Ray McGovern, a CIA analyst for 27 years. McGovern is outraged by the CIA's use of torture. He says that complacency of American has "eroded our morality." McGovern urges the Obama administration to continue its inquiry into torture practices during the Bush years. He hopes former officials will be convicted for war crimes either in an American court, or at the Hague. He also believes that our government must make sure torture is stopped once and for all.Related Event
Ray McGovern is speaking on "Why Accountability for Torture is Crucial for Human Rights, Our Security, and Our Souls," at Kane Hall, Room 220 on the University of Washington campus at 7:00 p.m.

Ray McGovern was a CIA intelligence analyst for 27 years. He presented regular intelligence briefs to Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. McGovern retired in 1990. Since then, he has been a vocal critic of U.S. policies. He spoke out against intelligence failures in the lead–up to the war in Iraq. He also co–founded Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity in 2003. McGovern remains outspoken on matters including torture, 9/11, and America's relations with Israel.
