Weekday

The DIY Hacker Fest

Steve Scher
01/21/2010 at 9:00 a.m.

Some of us think of hackers as evil computer geniuses who like to break into our computers to steal codes or send spam or mess things up just for the fun of it. But that's not all hackers are. There's a thriving hacker culture in Seattle. There are spaces for people who love to take electronics apart and put them back together, play with micro computers and make robots. We'll talk about Seattle's hacker/geek community, culture and creativity. What new technologies have people been creating and tapping into? What crazy projects are they creating?

Guest(s)

Matt Westervelt started a nonprofit called Seattle Wireless. He is also the owner of Metrix Communications, a wireless gear store.

Eric McNeill is an artist and technologist. He is one of the overlords of Seattle Dorkbot.

Willow Brugh is the director of Jigsaw Renaissance, a maker–space in Seattle. She also runs a trans–human discussion group.
