Today's featured music selection:
Our featured music today commemorates the birth anniversary of American Composer Samuel Barber. He was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania on March 9, 1910 and died in 1981. Among the selections today are his Adagio for Strings, Violin Concerto and his setting of James Agee's poetry, Knoxville: Summer of 1915.

At 2:05pm - Run Plant Fly
The town of Raventon, on the east side of the Washington Cascades, has seen better times. It is a refuge for those who have wandered then returned, and a haven of possibility for others, who arrive from elsewhere. When rumors of big-money development start circulating, and a chunk of timberland is transformed into the Simulator ® - the world’s first franchised virtual reality amusement center - Raventon and its inhabitants are drawn into a firestorm of change and ultimately, destruction, that calls into question the very nature of memories and what they mean. Ellie Belew tells this story in her novel, Run Plant Fly. She joins Megan Sukys to talk about her book and the accompanying CD.

  • At 2:33pm - Making Music at the Supreme Court
Classical music was one of the great passions of the late Supreme Court Justice Harry Blackmun. In his reminiscences about life on the court heard on NPR and C-SPAN this week, Blackmun speaks about his efforts to create regular music performances as a diversion from the demands of the court. Concert violinist Robert McDuffie was a good friend of the late justice, and made many concert appearances before members and friends of the US Supreme Court. McDuffie files a musical brief with KUOW’s Dave Beck. Robert McDuffie spoke with us in 1995, not long after Justice Blackmun retired from the court.
