Do you eat genetically modified food? Probably, even though you don’t know it. An estimated 80 percent of American processed food contains something that’s been genetically modified. In Europe the public is incensed about genetically modified crops. Here in the U.S., there’s less public awareness and less concern. In this hour of The Conversation, we talk about how crops are genetically modified. We learn how genetic modification is used to increase the harvest and resist insects. We find out why people are concerned about genetically modified crops. We find out how they affect developing nations and farmers. We find out how hard it is to regulate the genetic modification of food. Our guest will be Michael Rodemeyer, Executive Director of the Pew Initiative on Food and Biotechnology. The Pew Initiative neither supports nor condemns genetically modified foods. Its goal is to inform. And so is ours.Guests:
