Equity & Race Relations at Seattle Public Schools

08/31/2005 at 9:00 a.m.

Schools are a reflection of our communities. They host a wide range of abilities and interests as well as ethnic, cultural, and familial diversity. Dr. Caprice Hollins was brought into the Seattle Public School system to work on reducing institutionalized racism. What does that mean? What role do institutions like schools have in changing the way people think about race and equity? Seattle is an incredibly diverse community; are the institutional systems providing for everyone equally? This hour on Weekday, we take up diversity, equity, and community in the Seattle Public School system.

Guests:
Dr. Caprice Hollins is the Director of Equity and Race Relations for Seattle Public Schools appointed by Superintendent Raj Manhas in October of 2004.
