The death Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist late Saturday has opened yet another position in the US Supreme Court in addition to the seat vacated by Sandra Day O'Conner. Yesterday President Bush nominated Judge John Roberts to replace Rehnquist as chief justice. Why did Bush pick Roberts? Is he the best person for the job or the safest, easiest choice? Is there someone better suited? If Roberts is selected, what could that mean to the future of the Supreme Court? Who will be nominated to fill O'Conner's position? And what is the legacy of Rehnquist? What are the lasting effects of his 19 years of leadership? What questions do you have? The confirmation hearings considering Roberts for O'Conner's position were to begin today. The change in nomination will delay them until after Rehnquist's funeral.
