How does it work? How do journalists use the sources in the Public Insight Network?
Every way they can. You may receive a call from a producer or reporter who is looking for your expertise. You may receive an email with links to question forms. Whatever we send you, it's relevant to current or future coverage plans. Your answers teach us about the subjects we're covering. More and more, sources are ending up on the air contributing very directly to our journalism.
We limit our contact with you to about once a month. There are rare exceptions, but that just means you're in demand. As well, this is a two–way street. If you have something to say, grab a form, email publicinsight@kuow.org or call Carolyn Adolph at 206.221.0746.
How do sources sign up?
You sign up automatically if you answer one of our questions on the web. There's also our online sign–up form, which allows you to tell us more about your background.
Where is my information?
Everything our news sources send us lands in the network's database. Carolyn Adolph is the journalist who reads source information and puts it into action in the newsroom. Other newsrooms across the United States now have Public Insight Networks. It's possible that a journalist from another PIN newsroom will contact you. Read more about this in About Public Insight.
How does this connect to my membership at KUOW?
It doesn't. The Public Insight Journalist does not share source information with the membership side at KUOW, and vice versa. We never use your information for anything other than journalism. We never use your information for marketing or fundraising. We just care about what you know.
How do I unsubscribe?
Go to our unsubscribe page. There's a link to it at the bottom of every monthly email. One click and you're out. Feel free to say why.
