May 22nd is the birthday of composer Richard Wagner. In honor of his 200th year the Seattle Opera will be hosting a Wagner singalong. The Puget Sound region has become a destination for Wagner fans and he is still beloved by operaphiles. Seattle Opera General Director Speight Jenkins talks about the the composer’s appeal.

 The Challenges Facing Female Veterans
Women comprise 14 percent of the military, but VA hospital services and the military system are still primarily male-oriented.

Seattle US Marine veteran, Angela Arellano, and local post-traumatic stress disorder expert, Bridget Cantrell, appear in a new documentary by independent filmmaker Marcia Rock called “Service: When Women Come Marching Home.” They talk about the challenges facing disabled female veterans and how PTSD is addressed. Also, military sexual trauma remains a major issue.

Washington Senator Patty Murray introduced the Combating Military Sexual Assault Act of 2013 last Tuesday. We'll ask them how the act has been received among female veterans.

Placenta Offers Insight Into Autism Risk
New autism research shows that babies born with a high genetic risk for the disorder were more likely to have abnormal folds and creases in their placentas.  However, Dr. Harvey Kliman says that it is much too early to say that an examination of the placenta could be used as a definitive test for autism at birth.
