  • Labor & Economy Reporter

    The Puget Sound region has a rich ecosystem of homegrown Fortune 500 companies as well as a thriving startup culture. Our companies here are reshaping the way we live, work, travel and interact with technology. What happens in Seattle’s business and tech scene often sets trends throughout the country. We’re seeking an experienced labor and economy reporter. Here’s a look at the ideal candidate: You stay a step ahead of developments in Seattle’s evolving economy to tell the story of how our region is changing. You spot and report on labor trends, from people leaving the workforce to jobs in high demand. You cover unions and workers’ rights, along with efforts to unionize at big players like Amazon and Starbucks. You tell the stories of how labor shortages are reconfiguring industries. You look for stories about employees in search of work that better aligns with their values or reflects a better work-life balance, and the policies employers enact toward that. You dig into efforts to improve equity in the workplace, exploring solutions and setbacksYou report on how companies and employees are faring in industries hardest hit by the pandemic. You tell stories about their struggles and how some evolve. You look for emerging trends and signs of resilience. You turn around enterprise and breaking news stories for both broadcast and digital.   • Finance Program Administrator

    KUOW has an opportunity for a Finance Program Administrator to help develop policies on hiring practices, report on staffing, supervise the payroll function and manage and track data reporting related to staffing, internal and external diversity reporting, compliance reporting and open positions tracking. The ideal candidate will be comfortable within a financial department, working with managers and staff from other departments and generally enjoy being part of a collaborative unit in a public radio environment.   • Education Reporter

    KUOW is seeking an experienced reporter to cover stories about education in the Puget Sound region, ranging from K-12 through college. The Education Reporter (Reporter 1) will dive deep into issues that influence education equity, funding, policy, student outcomes and educator workforce/labor issues. They will spend time in the community to find trends, enterprise stories and diverse perspectives. The reporter will work with their editor to determine coverage approaches and priorities, with ongoing attention to systemic issues that contribute to the quality and inequity in our schools. A sample of topics for the upcoming year could include teacher shortages and burnout, school safety, disciplinary policies, student mental health, intersections with politics (critical race theory, book bans, transgender athletes), and new models for school and learning post-pandemic.   • Producer, Daily Podcast

    We have an outstanding opportunity for a Producer, Daily Podcast (Producer 2 - Podcast) to work on our daily news podcast, Seattle Now. Under the supervision of the Supervising Producer, you’ll develop, pitch and produce show segments that keep our daily listeners up to speed on essential news in the Puget Sound region. Pre-interview guests, provide host with background research, and write host introductions and interview questions. Gather sound, conduct interviews in the field as assigned. Oversee studio recording sessions. Mix audio pieces and prepare podcasts for publishing. This is a hybrid position, requiring a minimum of two days per week at KUOW’s facility. Open until filled.   • Marketing Project Manager

    KUOW has an outstanding opportunity for a Marketing Project Manager reporting to the (Interim) Chief Marketing Officer. The Project Manager has responsibility for coordinating and advancing station-wide initiatives and marketing campaigns. They will define business requirements, establish SMART goals, identify KPIs, analyze data, document decisions and workflows, manage calendars and budgets to ensure projects are launched on time and on-budget.     KUOW has a rare opening for a State Government Reporter representing the Northwest News Network to tell stories for a regional audience. The ideal candidate is an experienced reporter with in-depth knowledge of public policy and Washington state politics. This reporter will focus on stories about Washington state agencies, the Washington Legislature, the governor’s office and other state entities — and the people affected by public policy trends in the Northwest. Successful candidates will have a strong record of covering government and politics, breaking news and enterprise stories, with a keen focus on solutions, equity and accountability journalism. This position is perfect for a collaborative reporter who enjoys working with other journalists to dive deep into stories at the intersection of race, education, healthcare, and other beats.
