We have an outstanding opportunity for a Director of Philanthropy to be responsible for the vision, strategy, implementation and evaluation of all major fundraising from individuals and foundations including, planned giving, special events and capital campaigns.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops and leads a team to achieve organization’s annual major giving fundraising goals and innovate as needed to ensure efficacy of fundraising activities. Oversees the development and implementation of personal cultivation and stewardship plans for donors and prospects to realize major ($10,000+), and planned gifts from individuals, foundations and government agencies.
- Works closely with the President/General Manager, Head of Membership, and the Board of Directors in development and fundraising endeavors. Integrate and align development activities with the Chief Marketing Officer’s overall strategy and messaging.
- Ensures stewardship activities and major donor benefits coordination, with an emphasis on donor satisfaction and demonstrating impact.
- Major Gifts: Directs appropriate case management of major donor relationships and ensures cultivation processes are created, research is applied and appropriate contact occurs across all major donor caseloads. Directs cultivation processes/plans for major donors/prospects, personal communications/contact and donor events. Manages a portfolio of donors/prospects.
- Grants: Oversees research and funding proposal preparation and grant deliverable reports/items to corporate /family foundations and government agencies. Assigns work.
- Planned Gifts: Builds the planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest and charitable remainder trusts.
- Budgets/Goals/Tracking: Sets and tracks revenue goals and expense budgets for major giving and foundation programs. Conducts monthly planning/analysis sessions and in budget development/tracking with the Membership Services Manager and Director, Research/Analysis.
- Board: Staffs Board Development Committee meetings and oversees liaison relationships between Major Gifts staff and current PSPR Board members.
- UW and Other Partner Relationships: Oversees relationship with University of Washington Advancement (Development), NPR Development and other external fundraising partners to develop collaborative fundraising projects, where appropriate, and enhance relationships with KUOW donors/prospects.
- Stewardship: Meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective communications with them. Maintain gift recognition programs. Ensure creation of publications to support fundraising activities; integrate and align with Marketing strategy.
- Other duties: Participate in strategic planning, revenue development and budget planning and preparation, marketing, community outreach and special event activities.
Position reports to the Chief Marketing Officer with regular and timely communication/interaction with the President/General Manager.
(2) Major Gifts and Grants Officers, (2) Associate Major Gifts Officers, (1) Development Services Officer – RadioActive, (1) Planned Giving Officer, and (1) Major Gifts and Grants Coordinator.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- A minimum of 6-10 years of professional experience with significant responsibility for directing fundraising teams and achieving financial goals. Progressively increased responsibility in development, marketing, or major gift fundraising required or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
- Experience in managing, motivating and training staff required. Budget creation and program tracking/analysis required. Must have a working knowledge of direct marketing fundraising, personal cultivation methods, grant research/writing, donor database management, new media and fundraising programs.
- Demonstrated experience safeguarding donor experience: Donor-centric, with high degree of customer service orientation; adheres to AFP Donor Bill of Rights.
- A demonstrated ability to lead in a team-oriented setting. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required, both written and oral. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
- Knowledge of Salesforce a plus.
