The music scene is crazy. Bands start up each and every day. I saw another one just the other day. A special new band, but not all are special enough to headline Seattle's Bumbershoot, which just announced its 2024 lineup. Seattle's Labor Day Weekend festival this year boasts Pavement, Kim Gordon, Cyprus Hill, James Blake, Kurt Vile, Courtney Barnett, and many, many more.

Bumbershoot 2024's culinary program is bringing in 29 local restaurants, and 26 wineries and breweries, many of which are James Beard Award finalists or have been featured on The New York Times list of Seattle’s best restaurants.

The festival is also bringing back its Fashion District and Animation District as part of its visual arts offerings. As part of the Animation District, Bumbershoot will hold a new international competition: Bigfoot deepfakes. Folks are invited to submit their best deepfakes of Bigfoot. The festival says it is meant to be a "comedic and harrowing portrait of current deepfake technology."

In another corner of the festival, Bumbershoot is teaming up with NASA for "Songs for Space." Images from the James Webb Space Telescope will be beamed into the Pacific Science Center's PACCAR IMAX theater during performances of vocal groups ranging from gospel to opera and Gregorian chanting.

After a pandemic pause, and a change in leadership, Bumbershoot is now produced by New Rising Sun, which, so far, has injected new life into the Labor Day Weekend event. After declining attendance, the 2023 Bumbershoot exceeded expectations. This partially could have been because tickets were more reasonably priced than in previous years, when Bumbershoot was under the purview of One Reel. In 2019, tickets were $109 per day. In 2023, they dropped to $50 per day, or $85 for a weekend pass.

Bumbershoot 2024 tickets

Ticket prices for 2024 have gone up slightly from the previous year. Bumbershoot is also offering payment plans for tickets, which split up the price into monthly payments through August.

Single day ticket: $70

Two-day pass: $125

Bumbershoot 2024 lineup

This year's lineup is credited to talent buyer Chris Porter, who was behind booking Bumbershoot's musical acts from 1997 to 2016.
