About

Dyer Oxley joined KUOW as a web editor in 2020, handling day-to-day upkeep of the station’s website while providing editorial oversight. He also helms KUOW’s daily newsletter.

A newspaper reporter at heart, Dyer came to KUOW via various Seattle-area media — spanning talk radio, podcasts, and TV — where he covered the emerging opioid epidemic, transportation, local government, and the region's pop culture community (he argues the Northwest is one of the nerdiest places on the planet). You can count on him to keep up on the region’s many comic cons, science, and entertainment news.

Garden or a Band Aid? New anti-encampment tactic in Seattle

Neighbors in Seattle have put up a garden in place of a swept encampment. But the idea doesn't smell like roses to everybody in town. Washington farm workers are now supposed to be provided protections from hot weather ... supposed to. It's been said that Trump's revenge on GOP candidates who voted to impeach him would play out over this recent primary, and in the November election. But is it possible this "revenge" could backfire? What would you spend $38 million on? (It has to be ferries): Today So Far

Washington State Ferries just got some fresh federal funding. Now it has to decide what to do with it. Washington has a shortage of 911 dispatchers. Flooding and outages and chilly air. Seattle's new youth jail doesn't work too well. This post originally appeared in KUOW's Today So Far newsletter for August 11, 2022.

CHIPS and dip: Today So Far

You might not realize it, but the CHIPS Act is pretty exciting. But not everyone agrees with me. More monkeypox (MPV) vaccine has come to Washington state. Joe Kent takes the lead in the 3rd Congressional District; Herrera Beutler concedes. This post originally appeared in KUOW's Today So Far newsletter for August 10, 2022.

Looking for love, and orcas ... a rom-com review: Today So Far

Washington's 3rd Congressional District has been watched closely as the primaries heated up, and it has more eyes on it than ever. Move over "Sleepless in Seattle." Sorry "Twilight." There's a new rom-com in the Northwest thanks to the formulaic stylings of Hallmark. This post originally appeared in KUOW's Today So Far newsletter for August 9, 2022.

Sue Bird's last Storm game (potentially): Today So Far

Throughout her WNBA career, Sue Bird's jersey proudly stated "Seattle." It's National Farmers Market Week. Anxiety over last week's primary election hasn't subsided. If fact, it's become more intense in some races. This post originally appeared in KUOW's Today So Far newsletter for August 8, 2022.

It's not just about you: Today So Far

If you're riding in a car, wear a seatbelt. If you're rewiring a house, turn the power off. If you're going to travel through time, you need 1.21 gigawatts at 88 mph. It's basic common sense. So if you're going to be hanging indoors among large crowds these days, wear a mask. This post originally appeared in KUOW's Today So Far newsletter for August 5, 2022.
