Why is the 'R-word' back in public dialogue?

Recently, NPR’s “It’s Been A Minute” host Brittany Luse noticed the resurgence of a word online: the “R-word.” It’s something she thought had previously been banished from discourse. But with somewhat alarming frequency, it was showing up again and again in spaces she hadn’t seen before. Luse decided to look into and find out why this word was making a comeback.
