Only 3 percent of commercial airline pilots are women. But if you were flying into Anchorage, Alaska back in 2006, you'd be glad Stephanie Wallach was your pilot. On that flight, Stephanie made an emergency landing in an MD–80 jetliner after an engine failed.

Stephanie overcame many challenges in her 31–year career as a commercial airline pilot. A lot of those obstacles had nothing to do with flying. As one of the first 10 women to fly commercial passenger jets in the United States, Stephanie stood up to sexism and malicious rumors about her competency. KUOW's Dave Beck speaks with Stephanie Wallach. In 1978, she co–founded the International Society of Women Airline Pilots.
