"Subtext: What Goes Unsaid," is a new short series hosted by KUOW's Bill Radke. Radke joined Libby Denkmann to talk about how we understand each other, from the nuances of polarized politics to awkward family disagreements.

"If you are not talking with the people who you are trying to change, convince, persuade -- if you are only talking about them, you do not have a full toolkit," says Mónica Guzmán, author of "I Never Thought Of It That Way: How To Have Fearlessly Curious Conversations In Dangerously Divided Times.

In her conversation with Radke, Guzmán talks about navigating the political dissonance between her and her Trump supporting parents and her strategies for finding the how of a belief rather than the why.

You can hear the first episode of Subtext, including Radke's full conversation with Guzmán, here.
