We've arrived at the end of a short work week for many of us, thanks to the July 4th holiday. But even though the weather may still feel iffy at times, summer is here and the arts are pivoting to the new season.

KUOW’s Kim Malcolm spoke to Crosscut arts and culture reporter Margo Vansynghel about her intriguing list of events happening around our region this month.

The Bard is back. Seattle Shakespeare in the park

This year Seattle Shakespeare opted to put on A Midsummer Night's Dream and the lesser-known Cymbeline. Both are kind of love stories/comedies, although I would say that Cymbeline is a little bit the darker of the two. The director of Cymbeline said it has been transformed into more of a modern, queer-forward version of the story. And I'll just say the A Midsummer Night's Dream version involves puppets.

Northwest Tune-Up: Bikes, Music, Beer

This is a music festival in Bellingham’s new waterfront park. You’ll see bands playing on two different stages as the sun goes down. There are all these bike races happening in the surrounding mountains. And in the park itself, there’s an area with smaller hills that mountain bikers can do tricks on, so it's kind of a mountain bike lovers' paradise.

Musically, it's a really good lineup with some big names, including Wolf Parade, and Devotchka, but I'm most excited for Black Belt Eagle Scout, who I think has just an incredible voice.

Salon Delicatessen: Cosmic Feast at the Museum of Museums

The Museum of Museums is a contemporary art center on the border of Capitol Hill and First Hill. I'll make a promise that I think Salon Delicatessen is unlike anything you've ever seen. It's by the artist Orly Anan. I don't want to give away too much, but the best way I can describe it is "aliens hosting a fancy dinner party." I'll just say it's a total experience and I hope people go and see it.
