The fast-moving news out of the other Washington has set a lot of peoples’ heads spinning.

If you fancy a respite, KUOW’s Arts and Culture reporter Marcie Sillman has some recommendations.

FRIDAY October 11

Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre is deep in preview performances for the upcoming world premiere of the new musical “Austen’s Pride,” based on Jane Austen’s beloved “Pride and Prejudice.”

University of Washington Chamber Dance Company’s annual concert “Falling,” at Meany Hall-Katharyn Alvord Gerlich Theater. Performances through Sunday, October 13th. The program features work by Jose Limon, Talley Beatty, Brian Brooks and Mark Morris.

Opening weekend of “Overcoming: Badass Pacific Northwest womxn playwrights” at 18th and Union Arts Space. Short plays by local writers on the theme of overcoming.

Grand opening, Burke Museum of Natural History on the University of Washington campus.

SATURDAY October 12

Seattle’s Frye Art Museum celebrates the long career of choreographer Donald Byrd, artistic director of Spectrum Dance Theater. “Donald Byrd: The American That Is To Be,” features archival photos and video plus live performances weekly during the exhibit’s duration.

SUNDAY October 13

During the last golden age of radio, in the mid-20th century, the variety show was queen. Seattle’s Sandbox Radio Live has adapted the format for a new century, featuring work by local award winning artists and writers. Newly reopened Seattle Town Hall presents Sandbox Radio’s “Witch Hunt: A Live Halloween Episode,” showcasing playwrights Elizabeth Heffron, Scot Augustson, Brendan Healy and Anita Montgomery, plus poetry from Daemond Arrindell.
