Seattle Mariners fans turn out at T-Mobile Park for a Game 3 win
The Seattle Mariners took on the Detroit Tigers away from the Emerald City for Game 3 of the American League Division Series on Tuesday. But it didn't stop fans from showing up to root for the team at T-Mobile Park — even if it meant ditching work.
Wendy Luvahn left her job at Starbucks' corporate office early to join a watch party inside the ballpark with her son, Sam.
This season has been great for fans, she said.
“Just having a set of people that we really wrapped our arms around this year: Big Dumper, [Jorge] Polanco, having [Josh] Naylor join the team and [Eugenio] Suárez back, has been really, really fun,” Luvahn said, as she waited for the game to start.
The Mariners 8-4 win over the Tigers now brings the team just one win away from making their first American League Championship Series appearance since 2001.

The game featured several moments worthy of adding to the M's highlight reel for this season, like catcher Cal Raleigh smashing a home run. The homer was caught by a Mariners fan wearing a bright teal shirt with the message "DUMP HERE" — a nod to Raleigh's "Big Dumper" nickname.
Tuesday's game kicked off three hours later than originally scheduled, due to a rain delay in Detroit. But M's fans waited patiently, and passed the time by snacking on chicken tenders, flipping through books, and taking photos at the ballpark.
Autumn Scheitlin, a "long-time suffering Mariners fan," is used to being patient. Scheitlin has waited for the team to return to glory days similar to the run the team had during the 1995 and 2001 seasons. This season, Scheitlin says, has been a long time coming.
"The Mariners are definitely known for doing well and then screwing it up in the end," Scheitlin said.
Friends and college students Sov Sot and Alex Delgado credited clear class schedules behind a guilt-free trip to the watch party.

“Other than the homework that I am definitely neglecting right now,” Sot said.
Delgado was planning on attending his class at Washington State University’s satellite campus in Everett, but his professor cancelled.
“He usually gives a reason, but he didn’t say why,” Delgado said, laughing.
Once a self-described "soccer guy," Delgado became a Mariners fan in 2018, and says this year’s team brings a distinct "hunger" for wins.

"You can see it in their eyes," Delgado said. "You can see that even when they’re sitting out on the bench, you can see they’re having a good old time. It’s that vibe, it’s the energy they bring."
The Mariners will try to tap into that energy again when they take on the Tigers for Game 4, which is scheduled to kick off at 12:08 p.m. PDT.
And some fans will be back to cheer on the team at T-Mobile, like Luvahn.
She'll deal with her rescheduled meetings on Friday.
