Seattle's payroll tax is thriving, but faces next legal challenge
Seattle’s new payroll tax survived its first court challenge last June, and the city collected $231m from affected businesses in 2021. The city is forecasting continued growth: $277m in tax proceeds for 2022 and almost $300m next year. Now the lawsuit heads the Washington State Court of Appeals, which is scheduled to hear oral arguments in the case Friday.

'Astounding' revenue, 'misunderstood' injury rates: Jassy's first year running Amazon
Every year since 1997, Jeff Bezos has written Amazon’s annual letter for shareholders. This year, it was written for the first time by Amazon’s new CEO Andy Jassy. Covid-19 vaccine won’t be required for school kids in Washington state
The Washington state Board of Health voted unanimously Wednesday against adding the Covid-19 vaccine to the list of required immunizations for kids in schools and childcare settings in the state. The board was not debating the safety and efficacy of the Covid-19 vaccine for children but deciding whether it should be required for school and childcare entry.

Riding or hiking across Washington state just got easier with new bridge over Columbia River
The Columbia River has long divided the two halves of Washington's cross-state Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail.
