For more than 30 years, journalist Jaime Méndez has been bringing the news to Puget Sound’s Spanish-speaking community. Méndez was a news anchor and reporter for Univision Seattle for 17 of those years.

In November, Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns the station, announced it was ending its Univision affiliation, effective Jan. 1.

But that hasn’t stopped Méndez from broadcasting. His studio just looks a little different these days. There are fewer cameras and lights, but the space is familiar — it's his son's childhood bedroom.

"I don't have to wake up at 5:30 in the morning, I just walk from my bedroom to the office, which is just a couple of doors down," Méndez said.

Now, Méndez anchors his own nightly news show, Jaime Méndez News, which streams weeknights at 6 p.m. on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.

It’s one way Méndez wants to use his new media company, Se Habla Media, to produce Spanish-language news for Latinos here in Washington.
