Pack your weekend with events celebrating Pride, Renaissance magic, and young musicians

Even though we're heading into the weekend sweating out a heat wave, the arts and culture scene here in the Puget Sound region isn't slowing down.

The Stranger’s Jasmyne Keimig shares her weekend picks with KUOW’s Paige Browning.

This interview has been edited for clarity.

Alki Beach Pride

Alki Beach Pride is on Saturday and Sunday. There's going to be not one, but two parades. There'll be a volleyball tournament, deals at local restaurants, a Pride paint & sip, and Indigenous storytelling. One of my favorite events is a movie screening of the film But I'm a Cheerleader. It’s about gay teens that get sent away to a conversion camp and kind of fall in love. It’s really campy. I think it'll be a great beach watch.

The Washington Midsummer Renaissance Faire at Kelley Farm in Bonney Lake

This fair is in its second weekend. This weekend is themed "Myths & Magic." There'll be a lot of enchantment, magical creatures, folklore, and they're encouraging even more whimsical attire. It'll be a lot of fun. It's a really great escape.

Queer History Bike Tour

This is a 5.6-mile tour through the city. It's hosted in partnership with Cascade Bicycle Club and the Museum of Popular Culture. It gives cyclists an opportunity to learn about the queer history of Seattle; stopping at iconic queer sites throughout the city. You have a chance to go inside to see an exhibition called "Rise Up: Stonewall and the LGBTQ Rights Movement." It’s a really great way to get outside and learn about a different side of Seattle that might not be as obvious to the naked eye.

Refill Live 2021

On Sunday, there'll be a really great outdoor benefit concert in South Lake Union: Refill Live 2021. It's to support The Vera Project’s Equip the Kids Program, which helps young, underserved artists in King County get access to training, gear and support for making art. It’s a really stacked lineup. There will be lots of great performances for a really great cause, and they're streaming the performance live.
